Only 300 of these
radios were made for the U.S. to celebrate Kenwood's 60th Anniversary.
Still
produced by Kenwood today under the TS-2000 & TS-2000X model number
(another long running production unit having been available for over 10
years). Nearly the same audio quality as the no longer available TS-870S.
The Limited Edition included the
ARCP-2000 Radio Control software, DRU-3 Digital Record unit & the VS-3
Voice Synthesizer.
This unit is also sometimes referred
to as the "Black Version"
This rig is by far Kenwoods most
versatile rig. All modes - covering HF (160 - 10 Meters), VHF (6 - 2 Meters)
and UHF (440 Mhz.). A 1.2 Ghz. module was also available in the TS-2000X version.
As the unit was designed in the late 1990's it does not have 60 Meters stock
(however, full HF coverage can be added by a simple modification). Also capable
of "Sky Command"
An IF & AF DSP transceiver
Phenomenal transmit audio (set
MENU 22 to 3.0 Khz.) when used with a stock Kenwood desk microphone MC-90
- especially when the internal EQ is activated (MENU 21 - "CONVEN")
- even further improved by installing the N3GX "express software"
available
from the NU9N website. If you hear me on my TS-2000 I always have this
on - I installed the "Gold" version EQ (after installing - MENU
21 - "USER" setting).
Very accurate & stable too
- transceiver includes built-in TCXO (+/- 0.5 PPM).
